Recipes for Readers
A place to find recipes and food memories and cookbooks I mention in my essays.
I think we’ve established I love to read. This newsletter is, after all, called The Cozy Library. But if you are new here, you may not know that I love to cook.
I love cookbooks, I love to read food memoirs, and many of own memoir essays are food related and sometimes I share my recipes. The problem I’ve found is that my recipes are hidden amongst a growing number collection of essays and who wants to try to remember which essay goes with the Radish Butter recipe you really wanted to print out, but forgot to and now you are trying to search my archives. That’s no fun. Those kind of activities eat into your reading time.
So I am going to do my best to put together a foodie index for you. Bookmark and come back to here whenever you feel the need to cook or have a hankering to read a food memoir. I’ll be regularly updating this page.
My Food Memoir Essays
The Holidays as Told Through Three Spinach Recipes: Thanksgiving and Christmas memories anchored by the spinach dishes that were served.
Radishes in the Garden: A story about my childhood love of radishes and a printable recipe for Radish Butter (which you can also find below).
The Bisquick Diaries: My mother loved to use Bisquick to make meals during my childhood. This essay is about the first chocolate chip cookies I ever baked.
Storybook Picnics: The fiction books AND cookbooks that will inspire you to pack a basket and spread out a blanket. Also included is a little memoir about some of the best picnics I’ve had the pleasure to attend throughout my life.
Food Writing
Food Writing 101: I immersed myself in reading novels and food memoirs for a few weeks in an effort to become a better food writer. This post contains a nice, long list of some of the books I recommend from the experience.
