Oh how you can describe wonderful things. I am so hungry now and my mouth is watering for some delicious foods. I loved picnics as a kid too. We would go to the beach mostly. Even when the wind was blowing and our sandwich’s got gritty it was alway fun and watermelon always seemed to taste better on a picnic. Thank you for a juicy read.

We always had beach picnics too-there is nothing like sandy pb&j sandwiches and salty potato chips with cool ocean breezes.

Picnics, yes! My parents had a red igloo cooler for our sandwiches. I haven't had a real picnic in years. I think I need to have one soon!

There's a beautiful book about picnics by Marnie Hanel and illustrations by Emily Isabella.

I hope you can find a copy. I checked it out from the library again thanks to your picnic inspiration and it's just as delicious as I remember!

Hahahaha "It must have been a breeding ground for salmonella in that cooler, what with the warm chicken, but it was the 1970s-1980s and food handling was managed differently back then. I’m alive to tell the story so there’s that." - girl, tell it. We used to go on picnics when I was a kid too, my parents didn't have much money so we certainly didn't go out to eat, at most we might have stopped for ice cream on a Sunday drive.

We had a similar cooler/ jug! We wouldn't have had Crystal Light, more likely Kool-Aid or that powdered iced tea that came in a big blue can. We would have had homemade cookies, apples, and sandwiches, probably a big bag of chips too. Or a box of chips - Old Dutch came in boxes then. Bologna sandwiches, probably, with pickles!

Sunday drives! Does anyone still do those? We stopped at fruit stands then too. If we were really lucky a stop at the Dairy Queen for sundaes.

For us, we would go to a small town nearby that was famous for its ice cream - Mackays in Cochrane, if anyone from my part of the world is reading this!

You are so good at conjuring up memories. My first date with a particular boy in highschool involved him packing a picnic breakfast and driving us up to Mt. Rainier to see the sunrise. Still one of the most romantic picnics I've ever been on...You've given me inspiration to up my game from the usual peanut butter and jelly sandwich picnic fare. I think I need to reread The Secret Garden to see what was in their basket....PS -- we need that recipe for the homemade calzones!

Your picnic memory is incredibly romantic and am a little jealous you have something so dreamy in your memory bank. If that guy was doing that in high school, I wonder what he's like now? I will share the calzone recipe at soon!

What a lovely description and I love the coordinated Coleman picnic jug and cooler. I have many memories of that Banquet Fried Chicken too. I wonder if It still tastes as good as it seemed like it did back then. I suspect not. haha

It tastes pretty good. I like it better than stuff you can get in the grocery deli.
