I had no idea they did cataract surgery that long ago. And no, I wasn't alive then, it just feels like it some days. Thanks for a fun post. I did get to stay up to watch all those shows. I was a rebel, and also probably a few years older. :)

I loved Bionic Woman -- I wanted to be her, running in slow motion with my long hair flowing! Interesting about the history of cataract surgery. Glad you have had success! Both my father and father-in-law are having the surgery this year. We are so thankful for these medical miracles!

Farmer Boy! All the descriptions of food! So many pies! Interesting factoid: LIW wrote that book as a counterpoint to her own very hungry childhood. That was why so much food description (here for it). Also - it's wild. It's wild! The whole blacksnake whip, the boys are going to beat the teacher, but then HE TURNS THE WHIP ON THEM and then we find out it's Mr Wilder's whip??? Whoa nelly, it's a story and a half. And then isn't there a part where he falls through the ice and gets a whipping? Or a threat of a whipping. It's been a while.

I also really liked the Marriage Portrait EXCEPT FOR THE END. I am still annoyed by it.

My grandma got cataract surgery in the early 90s, and she had to come to the big city of Calgary from Estevan SK to get it. So she stayed with us and I remember watching the VIDEO of this, and they didn't have laser surgery, it was literally tiny knives. It was a disturbing video. I just shuddered.

Hope you are all healed up soon and you can colour your hair and put on makeup and move on with your life like the Bionic Woman (I have never seen that show, I'm just a teensy bit too young).

I loved watching the Bionic Woman when I was a kid -- and wanted to be her. Now? Not so much, but like you, I am grateful to have access to the technology that makes it possible for me to see, chew my food, and hear my kids tell me I'm cool (not!).
