Love this piece!! My friend and I are developing a road trip based upon visiting the bookstores of our favorite authors -- starting with Ann Patchett. Hitting up Louise Erdrich's bookstore in Minneapolis, Emma Stroud's in NYC.

Such a great idea! My wife and I try not to buy souvenirs that may turn into junk later, but we also want to bring tourist money to local economies. The answer: bookstores! I have a bookmark from almost every city we've gone to. I have a book of local fairy tales and legends from every city in which I could find one, from Croatian children's tales to Icelandic fairy mythology to Haida stories and lore.

great ideas! I am a native San Diegan (live up in North County) and I’ve never been to the Coronado library. also, I have never heard that bit of trivia so now I definitely want to go!

You should totally go! I used to live in Aliso Viejo (South OC). I recommend going to the library to see the stained glass and then having lunch at the hotel Del. It's a great way to spend a summer day! Here are more ideas for a Wizard of Oz weekend I found online for you! https://www.sandiegofamily.com/things-to-do/travel/must-see-sites-in-coronado-for-fans-of-wizard-of-oz
